Streetmekka Esbjerg

Project type: Competition

Client: Game

Project Team: Arcgency, COWI, K.G.Hansen & Sønner

Location: Esbjerg, Denmark

Status: 2014 Shortlisted

SNE Architects was delighted to be part of a team shortlisted to develop a design proposal for the new GAME Streetmekka in Esbjerg, Denmark.

The project was a refurbishment and transformation of a disused roundhouse just on the outskirts of the central city. The complex will house Dance, Street Basket ball course, a skate area for both exterior and interior, parkour facilities, as well as admin, art zone and changing rooms. The aim is giving the city’s street culture a home base, – a collected place of it’s own.

The architectural objective was to keep the existing building as a rough, industrial shell with great connectivity between the exterior and interior. The different zones are connected with a flow throughout the building complex with the café/ reception at the core. Throughout the different zones, plenty of hang out options have been strategically placed, to ensure Streetmekka will become a social gathering place, and hereby hopefully encourage more people to get involved in the activities taking place here.
